Jaipur: The Rajasthan high court on Wednesday ordered that mine owners too be made party to the petition relating to making provisions for workers and those suffering with silicosis. Observing that orders were not being implemented, it said that a survey of mines should be conducted in Karauli, Dausa and Dholpur districts. It has also instructed the Centre and state governments and the state human rights commission to achieve greater clarity on the division of responsibilities.

The court was hearing a suo motu petition filed last year after a Punjab law student reported on the widespread prevalence of silicosis among mine workers in the state. Read more
