JAIPUR: Patients with silicosis, whose compensation money had still not been released, on Friday met district collector Bishnu Mallick of Jodhpur. “We had decided to sit on an indefinite dharna, but the collector assured us today that the money would be released in a matter of about 10 days. We have decided to call off our dharna. If the money is delayed and we do not receive it in 10 days, we will sit on indefinite dharna,” said Chota Ram Meghwal of Balesar, Jodhpur, who has been aiding patients in accessing their compensation money.

District collector Bishnu Mallick had earlier assured TOI that he would do everything possible to help those who were waiting for the compensation money. “The state government is working very earnestly to compensate the silicosis afflicted. We also do not at present have any dearth of funds,” he said.
